What is Street Smart?

Street Smart is a new safety initiative from the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) designed to teach students about road safety. The program helps students become safer passengers and pedestrians now — and safer drivers later. Its goal is to empower young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make smart, safe choices whenever they’re on the road.

Road safety starts with the basics — learning how to be safe as a pedestrian, bicyclist, or passenger. Our 6th grade materials help you understand why pedestrian safety matters. Learn to recognize dangers and how to cross streets safely. Build important safety skills for when you see bicycles and buses on the road. We’re here to help you learn how to practice road safety at school and at home, so let’s get learning!

7th Grade Learning Zone

In our 8th grade materials, students learn how to share the road safely with others. Explore key vehicle safety basics, from seat belts to mirrors and more. Lessons help you get ready for emergencies on the road and teach you what to do if something goes wrong. These lessons help you become a confident pedestrian and driver, ready for the road ahead.
